And Time Marches On
I've missed out on interacting with a lot of fun and interesting posts on here - sorry that I'll likely be popping up on older blog entries in the not too distant future XD
Life has been...'hectic' is probably the most diplomatic way I can put it. I'm not just talking about the Awful Things we're all going through (pandemic, war, etc...I hate that I have to write etc there), I'm still helping out a friend with a thing that's both terrible and takes a lot of time and energy (which is not her fault!!! this is something that's a thousand times worse for her and something that's happened too her) but summer is getting closer and all the overtime I've worked is paying off in a lot of vacation days being available to me at last <3
I'm currently enjoying a four day weekend. Spent yesterday just reading, enjoying fandom things and petting the cat I'm catsitting - an adorable old lady of 18 who mostly wants to sleep and cuddle <3 Tried to get some writing done today, will probably make a post about that tomorrow~
Also, as a longtime fan of The Magnus Archives, I've (at last) started listening to Jonathan Sims' old band The Mechanisms. I've fallen hard for this silly group of immortal space pirates and their over the top What-If-Mythology/Fairy-Tales-But-More-Queer-And-In-SPAAAACEEEE songs <3<3<3 I've spent the better part of my limited free time these past two weeks seeking out videos of their old performances, having a grand old time! Watching people have fun, perform in homemade costumes, write songs with interesting and neat lyrics, have short stories in-character on their blog, it all gives me such nostalgic feelings for going to steampunk cons and burlesque shows etc as a ~youth~ (I still do go to those sort of things, but recent circumstances have sort of limited that, of course). I still have "High Noon at Camelot" left to listening to, but I'm saving it, because once I've listened to that I'll be all out of new Mechanisms stuff ;_;
Think it's time I update that fandom list I've got, because I've gained more fandoms since 2020. Putting it on my to-do list!
Also, this fan animation to "Swan Song" by the Mechanisms is beautiful and makes me cry real tears ;_;

I too discovered them via TMA (I have a few friends for whom it was the other way around.)

I've seen posts by a few people who've gone the Mechanisms -> TMA route and they seem endlessly amused by the rest of us discovering what Jonathan Sims looks like as an immortal space pirate XD
Do you have a favorite album/song/character of theirs? I think I like all of their work in different ways, but the music style of The Bifrost Incident is the one I generally enjoy the most usually, so it's won me over the most. I'm still saving up High Noon over Camelot though, so I'm not fully caught up on their discography (though I have listened to Death of the Mechanisms and really enjoyed 'Hellfire'!)
