In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story.

Oh boy, I've reached that age (aka 36) where I'm having a hard time being 100% sure of exactly how I came in contact with fandom. But this is what I do recall!

1) I first encountered fanfiction while randomly surfing the Internet, back when I was 11-12 years old. I found a Gundam Wing website with fanfic and fanart of the ship Heero/Duo, and I remember being very confused about the fact that Duo was a boy and not a girl 😆 That got itty-bitty Swedish me started on a quest to watch all of Gundam Wing, one post-order VHS at the time! It took many years and many birthday wishes and Yule gifts + pocket money, and the last ones were DVDs, but I did collect the whole series 😊

2) I quickly started writing my own fanfic - in English, since fanfic in Swedish was unknown to me at the time and isn't exactly common these days either. So I wrote a very misspelled Swenglish self-insert Sailor Moon/SWAT Kats crossover and posted it to fanfiction.net~! My mother was so proud she printed the story 😁

3) When I was 13 I joined my first ever roleplaying group, an Elfquest group called "Starpool Holt". That really helped me improve both my English and realize how much more fun it is to roleplay when you're not insisting on being a "mysterious loner". My first character there was a blue-haired twin whose entire family of course had been slaughtered by humans, very brutally and traumatically. Had a ton of fun in that group 💙

And thus another fandom member was developed! I've been nerding out both with my sister and close IRL friends, and with friends and strangers online, ever since 💖

Your top 5 fandoms for 2023 were:
1) Remedyverse (Alan Wake II came out at the end of the year and blindsided me with how much I ended up loving it and rediscovering my love for all the other games by this studio, especially Control)
2) Critical Role (This is one of the fandoms I've been continuously active in the longest. Strangely, it's also the one where I read the least fics, and I haven't written any.)
3) Candela Obscura (Love the setting and fell hard for the second 'season' of the actual play show. I've so much great fanfic to get caught up on!)
4) The Mechanisms (I know I'm decades late to this fandom, but I still had a joyous time listening to all the albums and checking out the recordings scattered around Youtube. Still have one left unseen that I'm saving for a metaphorical rainy day)
5) ElfQuest (Canon jumped the shark for me long ago, but I'm still having a blast rping OCs in old-fashioned post-by-post forum RPGs)

Your top 5 fandom spaces (Discord, Twitter, etc.) in 2023 were:
1) Chatting about meta and fic plotting with friends + playing TTRPGs
2) AO3
3) Tumblr
4) Twitter
5) Discord (in small private groups, playing D&D)

The top 5 things you did to contribute to fandom in 2023 were:
1) Commenting (on fic, fanart, etc)
2) Reblogging/Retweeting art, fics and meta
3) Brainstorming fics and meta with my friends one-on-one
4) Interacting with meta, contributing what I can
5) Fic writing (I've been in a bit of a funk when it comes to writing fic, but that's already gotten better this year!)

Your top 5 most appreciated fandom contributions were:
1) My interaction with my friends, which goes both ways 💖(talking meta, brainstorming fic, DM-ing D&D, etc)
2) My comments! I've been doing my best to comment more on both art and on each chapter of fics I read, and I can tell it's made people happy 😊
3) My retweets/reblogs
4) My Rook & Rose fanfic Stitch-Witch
5) My Alan Wake II fanfic Loss of Face

Your fandom personality in 2023 was: (i.e. Fandom Eeyore, Twitter Refugee, Discord Party Animal, etc.)
The Cheerleader~!

In 2023, you discovered: (that you adore hockey RPF, but you hate the Liberty Mutual emu, etc.)
Alan Wake II, to the joy and horror of my poor friends and family 😆

Your fandom home in 2023 was:
It's a tie between AO3, Tumblr and chatting person-to-person with my friends.

The first challenge was to update your intro post and the second was to update your fandom goals. Now, number 3:

Create a wish list of fandom things (podfic, graphics, playlists, canon recs translations, research help, vids, sky's the limit!) that you'd like to receive.

Okay, I'm very new to this particular challenge, but here I go:

1) Fandom discussions! I love to partake in them 💗 Be it general cheering about why a canon is fun, talking about ships, brainstorming fic or discussing meta, if you want to chat about a fandom we share, please do 💖

2) I'm happy for all fanworks my fandoms get! More of all kinds will make my day 😃 The fandoms I'm currently most focused on are:
Candela Obscura, Critical Role, Dimension 20/A Court of Fey and Flowers, ElfQuest, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Leverage, Remedyverse, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek (mainly DS9 and TOS) & The Untamed.

3) The fandom I am ABSOLUTELY FERAL ABOUT RIGHT NOW IS REMEDYVERSE!!! Aka the video games made by Remedy Entertainment that sort of share a common multiverse (Alan Wake I & II, Control, Max Payne, Quantum Break). If you know anything about these games, I'd be thrilled to talk to you about them! My absolute favorite character right now is Alex Casey from Alan Wake II, but I'm happy to talk about any aspect of the games and pretty much any character and/or ship you can think of 😁

4) Always happy to get comments on my fics and to talk about my fic WIPs. 💖💙💗

5) Fanwork recs are always welcome, especially for AMVs/MEPs/animatics/shiny-pictures-set-to-music. When it comes to AMVs and animations, I am not picky about fandom, so please link me all the neat ones you know of!

6) Directed at myself: I wish for the ability to focus on writing the fic that brings me the most joy to write instead of writing things I feel I "should" work on. Please me, just go with what's most fun at the moment! Writing will be so much more recuperating and enjoyable that way. Write those self-indulgent, smutty, silly, over-the-top stories!

Challenge: Tell us about 3 creative/fannish resources, spaces, or communities you use or enjoy.

I'm actually really bad at finding online resources and communities for my fandoms because most of the places I enjoyed hanging out as A Youth have been lost to time and now I'm too old and set in my ways (and busy with non-fandom things like work) to find new places. I tend to do fandom one-on-one/in small group with friends, or read/post fanfics on AO3. If I need to double-check something about a canon, I tend to either re-read/watch said canon or use google.

Digging one thing up: I used to enjoy hanging out on the official ElfQuest forum, which thankfully was at least partially recreated as Father Tree Holt when the Pinis decided to delete the whole thing. I'm not too active over there, but I still have a login.

I am so sleep-deprived again, it's almost funny. Had a real fun kick-off evening with work Thursday, at one of my coworkers' places, but I got home waaaaay too late due to roadwork and delayed trains, so I've slept less than 4 hours ^_^'

BUT I had a super fun game night this evening I didn't want to cancel. I GM:ed Zero Void - aka A Quick Game of Space Crimes - for my sister & a few friends and we had a blast XD We played it way more lighthearted and Full of Aliens than the original seems to intend, but it was fun and the game mechanics were super easy to pick up :D Highly recommended!

In other roleplaying news, I have a big rpg thing happening tomorrow and one of my "old" Elfquest post-by-post RPG groups has woken up from hibernation. Fun all around!

Oh, and Yuletide is also just around the corner! At least nominations. Having just finished A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine, I am definitely going to have to nominated its duology Teixcalaan because EMOTIONS and and PERSONHOOD and LANGUAGE and COOL ALIEN THINGS!!!!

I really should hit the hay now. I'm at that level of Tired where you're basically drunk XD Hope anyone reading this is having a good day/night (and if not, that you'll soon have a good one <3)

So. Here we are. Final comic.

I know I'm late to this, but I honestly forgot the comic had come out. That's how not engaged I am in the final issues of a comic I've followed and loved since I was a child. Ugh, I just made myself sad.

Let's get on with it, shall we?

We are finally approaching the end. Soon the Final Quest will have ended and we can all find peace. Hopefully there will be something left of the fandom by then...
