nonesensed: Childermass after his encounter with the Raven King (Childremass has had a rough day)
Due to, well, everything that's been revealed about NaNoWriMo's many and awful issues, I've finally deleted my account on their site, and I'm having emotions about that.

If you haven't heard of NaNoWriMo before, it stands for National Novel Writing Month and is a challenge where you write 50 000 words on a project during the month of November. I've been doing NaNoWriMo successfully every year since 2011. It's the one month a year when I've been able to "force/allow" myself to write, because it's been an official challenge other people are doing at the same time, that's fairly well-known.

I'll still try to write 50k+ words during the upcoming month. I've transferred all my data from the NaNo site to TrackBear. I'm even in both a Discord group and a Tumblr challenge that's aiming to cheer each other on and keep the writing going.

It'll be all right. I've not actually lost anything. Not really. Just having strong End of an Era vibes right now and had a rough day at work. Thus, mopey post.

Will hopefully be bright-eyed and full of writing-cheer tomorrow!

Seems my most powerful grief response is keeping crazy busy and diving into new fandoms. Since Alan Wake II just released I've gone deep into that and all other Remedy games I've always meant to play but never gotten around to. Might also be plotting a silly crackship fic starring Alex Casey and Doctor Darling from Control.

Still miss my cat horribly, but I'm getting to the acceptance stage.

In other news, NaNoWriMo is still going, despite my emotions being all over the place. Still like the story, but it's going to need so much editing from this mess of a first draft before it makes any kind of sense.
nonesensed: (Sadly this is true for me.)
For over two years now I've been doing my best to finish a 'book'-project I've titled A Werewolf in October, which I've been posting over on my writing blog. My goal for this summer is to finally actually fully finish the darn thing and I MIGHT JUST MAKE IT!!!

Having said that I'll now go knock on all the wood. But I did just post the final draft of chapter 11 (out of 13 chapters + an epilogue) and I've got all the other final chapters up to draft 6-7~! I'm also reading the final drafts aloud to my dear sister, to sniff out the final typos and illogical sentences. We're done with chapters 1-8 already. So there is hope!

Things I've learned from this project: Never post book projects this long piece-by-piece again, it makes editing a mess XD This long a story needs to be able to be rewritten from scratch from first to last page and I've felt a little "locked in" by having shared early drafts of chapter 1 online. Live and learn!

Also, I've found a drafting method that I need to try with my next projects! Might not be fully for me, but I think it could be a good top-down way to work out my outlines :)

I'm using Camp NaNoWriMo to try to finish this story and to get some clear outlines for my (numerous) next ones. Wish me luck!

Soooo, the Swedish election went Awful, though that sadly didn't come as much of a surprise. The party with Nazi roots got 20% of the votes. Fuck.

BUT I can't do anything about that or the mess our government will be right now, so I'm trying to focus on positivity rather than tear my hair out. Thus, here's a little countdown (countup?) of fun things:

1) I've read two really great books of late! Several good ones, but one in particular that I'm adding the mental sticker "fandom" to and another that I suspect will reach that level of interest too once I've finished reading it. The one I'm definitely adding to my fandom list (really need to update that) is the Rook & Rose trilogy by M. A. Carrick (found family, con artists with hearts of gold, political intrigue, magic, queernorm second world fantasy~!) and the one I'm also very much am enjoying is the Teixcalaan duology by Arkady Martine (science fiction about colonialism and also memory storage and first contact with aliens).

2) I've decided on my NaNoWriMo project for this November! I'm going for writing as many short story parts of "Once a Bard and His Friends Took a Train" as I can manage. I have way too many almost finished novels to edit already, I don't need yet another, so short stories it is XD I'm also feeling super hyped for this project so I think this will be a lot of fun :D

3) Yuletide nominations are soon upon us! The fandom promo post is already warming up and I'm trying to decide on which of my many small fandoms I want to nominate myself~! At the moment, I'm thinking about nominating:
- Definitely Rook & Rose - M. A. Carrick because I adore it (AO3 link)
- The Mechanisms album High Noon over Camelot because I need more canon space cowboys OT3 <3 (AO3 link)
- Still unsure of my number 3, might be Teixcalaan, might be Books of the Raksura, might be Dimension 20's A Court of Fey and Flowers - so many options!

4) I'm doing well at not overworking myself! I've "only" worked full time since I got back from my summer vacation and I've scheduled a week's worth of vacation in November too, as well as a long rest over Yule, since I really need to use up all those extra vacation days I've saved up <3

So yeah, lots of emotions right now, trying to focus on the positive ones <3

I'm being dramatic but I think I deserve to be XD

My goal for this summer is to finish writing A Werewolf in October, so that's what I've mainly been writing on for Camp NaNoWriMo this month. At the start of July, the story was missing its 11th and 12th chapter. I have managed to write the full drafts of chapter 11 and 12. So what's the problem?

...the book now has 13 chapters.

Other than that writing frustration, I've gotten a few other things done! I'm not the most skilled when it comes to crafts, but I'm trying to do my part to spruce up one of my cosplays :D My sister is the genius who gets our cosplays looking excellent, but I do like to contribute at least a little, so I've painted some masks of NPCs from Critical Role to hang on the belt of my "Matthew Mercer-as-blindfolded-DM"-look cosplay and feel pretty proud of myself :)

In slightly less cheery but equally accomplished news, I've now listened to all songs by The Mechanisms. I've got one filmed performance still to watch, so it's not the complete "end", but it still feels bittersweet. I've got Blood and Whiskey on repeat right now, both because it's catchy and because I am enjoying listening to a rare three-way-love-song that's an OT3 instead of a love triangle <3<3<3

I took advice from a friend and focused on writing for fun so I could write more; 'lo and behold it's actually worked! I got to update my writing projects post today because I both named and 'published' a story in my new short story want-to-be-a-collection Once a Bard and His Friends Took a Train :D

The story itself is called Introductions Without Names and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out :) Hoping to get the time to write more about the cast of that setting eventually, but first I will finish A Werewolf in October, I swear it to myself! XD

Btw, I have all the respect in the world for people who write to publish. It is insanely hard work and those who can do it - especially those who're also doing other jobs alongside the writing - are incredible! So me going "Ah, I'll just write for fun" is by no means meant as disrespect to people who're actual authors; I'm more what that person who bakes at home for fun and then gives cookies to her friends is to professional bakery owners <3

At least I "only" turn 33 today. Had a friend turn 40 last December - no big party for him :( But there is always next year! Hopefully he'll get to have his big party before he turns 42!

That said, I still had a good day. My parents just got the news that they're getting vaccinated next Wednesday, which was a super great birthday present! I've also gotten back to working on my novel project A Werewolf in October over on my writing blog [personal profile] booksabaking because I'm participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. I'm making good time and I'm actually enjoying my own writing! Fingers crossed I might actually have the whole darn thing written before summer *knocks on all the wood*

In other news, I need to sleep more. I always need to sleep more on weekdays. 4-5 hours a night is not enough sleep. Wish there were more hours in a day ;_;

All my Yuletide nominations got accepted, yay! This means I get to wish for a fic from Let's Play CYBERPUNK RED - Polygon's Overboard (Web Series), Much Ado About Nothing (2011) and Sapphire & Steel :DDDD Time to start working on my Yuletide letter so I can finish sign-up!

Finally gotten through a rough time at work, aaaand I just finished my latest WIP fic (On the Subject of Nests and Happiness), so I'm hoping for a calmer time at work now so I can catch up with all fun stuff online again. My brain feels a bit squishy right now, but I'm feeling optimistic about both Yuletide and NaNoWriMo - November, here I come~!

NaNoWriMo is once more done and I've 55k more words to my name on my and my sister's book project Secrets in Ice. Sadly some parts got hella dark, way too dark compared to the rest of the story, so I will need to do some major re-writes :/ Lessoned learned: don't watch short horror movies while trying to write something upbeat.

But I really need a break from the story. Time to work on my Yuletide assignment and other Yule gift stories!

Because I'm procrastinating on NaNoWriMo. I'm soooo many words behind and I need to be done on the 27th, due to convention activities being on from the 28th to the 31st of July.
