The Woes of a DM
I reeeaaally wanna play D&D, ya'll! As a player.
Don't get me wrong, I love DMing, it's one of my favorite things to do! I'm definitely not getting burnout and I definitely don't regret starting two D&D groups; it's just that I'm longing to make a character of my own, with their own backstory and secrets! As DM, you're always a bit on the "outside", since you already know everyone's main backstory and all the mysteries. Sure, improve is a huge part of D&D, so you also get surprised and delighted by the twists and turns and random silliness of the game.
It's just... I wanna solves mysteries! I want to make a character that can just run around and interact with stuff, instead of having to keep track of a whole world. As much as I enjoy world building, it's also super fun to get to play in someone else's world! I've gotten to play in several different game systems - Götterdämmerung, Fallen Reich, The End of the World, Call of Cthulhu, Savage Worlds, etc. - but never D&D and I long to make a D&D character. It's my favorite system (which is why it's the main system I DM) and I have soooo many character ideas!
A friend of a friend has talked about maybe getting a group together and I'm super hopeful, though trying to not be obnoxious about it. Will have to tide things over by playing Necessary Evil until then I suppose XD

Wish people would realize how frikkin' grateful us perma-DMs are whenever we get to play instead XD You can be the crappiest DM ever and we'll still go WOHOOO, GAME TIME, THIS IS SO GREAT! (There are of course exceptions to every rule, but this is my general experience, heh).

And yeah, playing with new people is always a bit of a challenge. But it's so great when a new group finally connects and go out of their shells, starting to talk in-character and interacting with each other, and the DM dares to play-act the NPCs and improve more :D
